Patterns

STRAT Scanner focuses on a specific set of STRAT patterns. Each pattern is descriptive and should be interpreted with higher-timeframe context and FTFC alignment.

We group Context (pre-trigger) and Confirmation (post-trigger) into pattern families so you can see the full lifecycle in one place.

Context patterns

Context patterns end in -x or use context-specific names. They appear as Forming or Pending before a trigger occurs.

Confirmation patterns

Confirmation patterns end in -2 or use confirmed names. They carry Active, Expired, or Invalidated states.

Diagram legend: dark gray candles show surrounding context only. Light gray candles highlight structural steps where candle color is not the focus.

Pattern families

2-1 family

Context

2-1-x

Inside bar that has not confirmed the final break yet.

Confirmation

2-1-2

Inside bar followed by a confirmed directional break.

Bullish continuation - 2u-1-2u continuation example

Bullish continuation - 2u-1-2u continuation

Bearish continuation - 2d-1-2d continuation example

Bearish continuation - 2d-1-2d continuation

Bullish reversal - 2d-1-2u reversal example

Bullish reversal - 2d-1-2u reversal

Bearish reversal - 2u-1-2d reversal example

Bearish reversal - 2u-1-2d reversal

The dark gray candle is not part of the 2-1 family. It is included only for surrounding context.

The light gray candles represent the pattern sequence. Their bullish or bearish coloring is not what defines the pattern here; the STRAT direction (2U or 2D) is what matters.

3-1 family

Context

3-1-x

Outside bar, then an inside bar, waiting on confirmation.

Confirmation

3-1-2

Outside bar, then inside bar, then a confirmed directional break.

Bullish continuation - 3u-1-2u continuation example

Bullish continuation - 3u-1-2u continuation

Bearish continuation - 3d-1-2d continuation example

Bearish continuation - 3d-1-2d continuation

Bullish reversal - 3d-1-2u reversal example

Bullish reversal - 3d-1-2u reversal

Bearish reversal - 3u-1-2d reversal example

Bearish reversal - 3u-1-2d reversal

The dark gray candle is not part of the 3-1 family. It is included only for surrounding context.

The light gray candle highlights the inside bar (the 1). For 3-1-2, the direction of the initial 3 (bullish or bearish) is significant and helps determine whether the sequence is a continuation or a reversal.

3-2 family

Context

3-2-x

Outside bar with a directional break that has not confirmed.

Confirmation

3-2-2

Outside bar followed by a confirmed directional break sequence.

Bullish reversal - 3-2d-2u reversal example

Bullish reversal - 3-2d-2u reversal

Bearish reversal - 3-2u-2d reversal example

Bearish reversal - 3-2u-2d reversal

The dark gray candle is not part of the 3-2 family. It is included only for surrounding context.

The light gray candles highlight the structural sequence (the 3 and the first 2). The bullish or bearish variant is determined by the direction of the 2s, either 2U-2D or 2D-2U.

1-2 family

Context

1-2-x

Inside bar with an early directional break, context not confirmed.

Confirmation

1-2-2

Inside bar followed by a confirmed two-direction break.

Bullish reversal - 1-2d-2u reversal example

Bullish reversal - 1-2d-2u reversal

Bearish reversal - 1-2u-2d reversal example

Bearish reversal - 1-2u-2d reversal

The dark gray candle is not part of the 1-2 family. It is included only for surrounding context.

The light gray candles highlight the 1-2 portion, where bullish or bearish color is not the focus. The STRAT direction is determined by the 2U or 2D, and the reversal is defined by the direction of the final 2.

1-1 family

Context

1-1-x

Two inside bars, waiting on the confirmation break.

Confirmation

1-1-2

Two inside bars, then a confirmed directional break.

Bullish breakout - 1-1-2u breakout example

Bullish breakout - 1-1-2u breakout

Bearish breakout - 1-1-2d breakout example

Bearish breakout - 1-1-2d breakout

The dark gray candle is not part of the 1-1 family. It is included only for surrounding context.

The light gray candles represent the 1-1 portion, where bullish or bearish color is not the focus. The breakout direction is defined by the final 2 (2U or 2D).

3-3 family

Context

3-3-x

Two outside bars with a pending confirmation break.

Confirmation

3-3-2

Two outside bars, then a confirmed directional break.

Bullish continuation - 3-3u-2u continuation example

Bullish continuation - 3-3u-2u continuation

Bearish continuation - 3-3d-2d continuation example

Bearish continuation - 3-3d-2d continuation

Bullish reversal - 3-3d-2u reversal example

Bullish reversal - 3-3d-2u reversal

Bearish reversal - 3-3u-2d reversal example

Bearish reversal - 3-3u-2d reversal

The dark gray candle is not part of the 3-3 family. It is included only for surrounding context.

The first 3 is shown in light gray because its color is not the focus. The second 3 and the final 2 define continuation versus reversal based on STRAT direction (2U or 2D).

2-2

Confirmation

2-2

Directional continuation sequence with confirmation (includes 2-2-rev).

Bullish continuation - 2u-2u continuation example

Bullish continuation - 2u-2u continuation

Bearish continuation - 2d-2d continuation example

Bearish continuation - 2d-2d continuation

Bullish reversal - 2d-2u reversal example

Bullish reversal - 2d-2u reversal

Bearish reversal - 2u-2d reversal example

Bearish reversal - 2u-2d reversal

The dark gray candle is not part of the 2-2 pattern. It is included only for surrounding context.

This is a confirmation-only pattern (there is no -x context stage). The first 2 is shown in light gray because its color is not the focus. The STRAT direction is determined by the second 2 (2U or 2D), which defines continuation versus reversal.

Failed-2

Context

Failed-2 (Context)

A directional break that has started to fail.

Confirmation

Failed-2 (Confirmation)

A directional break that fails and reverses.

Bullish Failed-2 - Failed-2d-2u example

Bullish Failed-2 - Failed-2d-2u

Bearish Failed-2 - Failed-2u-2d example

Bearish Failed-2 - Failed-2u-2d

The dark gray candle is not part of the Failed-2 sequence. It is included only for surrounding context.

Bullish Failed-2 shows a 2D candle that is green, followed by a 2U. Bearish Failed-2 shows a 2U candle that is red, followed by a 2D.

Randy Jackson

Context

Randy Jackson (Context)

Multi-candle continuation context sequence.

Confirmation

Randy Jackson (Confirmation)

Multi-candle continuation sequence with confirmation.

Bullish Randy Jackson - 2u-2u-2d-2u continuation example

Bullish Randy Jackson - 2u-2u-2d-2u continuation

Bearish Randy Jackson - 2d-2d-2u-2d continuation example

Bearish Randy Jackson - 2d-2d-2u-2d continuation

The dark gray candle is not part of the Randy Jackson sequence. It is included only for surrounding context.

The sequence is four candles: 2U-2U-2D-2U for bullish and 2D-2D-2U-2D for bearish. Candle color is not the focus here; STRAT direction (2U or 2D) defines the sequence.

Hammer / Shooter

Context

Hammer/Shooter (Context)

Reversal-style candle with a long wick, appearing after 2D-2D or 2U-2U before confirmation.

Confirmation

Hammer/Shooter (Confirmation)

Reversal candle with a long wick and confirmed break.

Hammer - bullish reversal example

Hammer - bullish reversal

Shooter - bearish reversal example

Shooter - bearish reversal

The dark gray candle is not part of the Hammer/Shooter sequence. It is included only for surrounding context.

Hammer is a bullish reversal that requires 2D-2D-Hammer and confirms with a 2U. Shooter is the opposite: 2U-2U-Shooter and confirms with a 2D. The first two candles are directional (2U/2D); their color is not the focus.

Hammer and Shooter can be any candle color, and the candle itself can be a STRAT type 1, 2, or 3. Mathematical definition in the scanner: Hammer has a lower wick at least 2x the body and an upper wick no more than 0.5x the body. Shooter has an upper wick at least 2x the body and a lower wick no more than 0.5x the body.

Momo Hammer / Shooter

Context

Momo Hammer/Shooter (Context)

Momentum version of the hammer/shooter context before the final continuation candle.

Confirmation

Momo Hammer/Shooter (Confirmation)

Momentum version of hammer/shooter with confirmation (continuation).

Momo Hammer - bullish continuation example

Momo Hammer - bullish continuation

Momo Shooter - bearish continuation example

Momo Shooter - bearish continuation

The dark gray candle is not part of the Momo Hammer/Shooter sequence. It is included only for surrounding context.

Momo Hammer and Momo Shooter are continuation patterns. The sequence is 2U-2U-Hammer-2U for bullish continuation and 2D-2D-Shooter-2D for bearish continuation.

Hammer and Shooter can be any candle color, and the candle itself can be a STRAT type 1, 2, or 3. The math definition is the same as above.

Pattern categories

Category labels (continuation, reversal, breakout) summarize how the structure is typically interpreted in context. They are analytical labels, not instructions to act.
